The house on the left is No. 2, with a black and white plaque commemorating the fact that Constable, the painter, spent two summers here. At least one of his paintings of the Admiral's House appears to record the view from an upstairs window at this address. The property is unusual in that it retains the original 18th century window surrounds http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2523418, not that often seen - can anyone tell me the correct architectural term for these?
