Showing part of the western end of the bascule bridge over the River Hull, including the lifting mechanism and the counterweight (painted red). Like the earlier North Bridge it is a Scherzer rolling lift bridge (or "walking lift bridge"). Horizontal pinions project from the machine rooms and engage with straight racks to operate the bridge which rotates along the rolling paths. It dates from 1961 but is of very similar design to North Bridge.
