Rochdale Bus Station, and behind it (the taller black building), Rochdale Municipal Offices, which is the seat of Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council. The current Municipal Offices, known locally as the ‘Black Box’, was built in the mid-1970s following the creation of the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale in 1974. As of June 2011, both the bus station and the Black Box are set to be replaced and then demolished by around 2012.
