Lying next to this field called Image may giver a clue to the former name of the crossroads now reduced to just one road available for vehicular access. The lane in the foreground is Chilver Bridge Road which dates back to Roman times and is the former main east-west access route until it was superseded by the current A27 to the south in 1819. The original main road ran straight on along Moorshill Lane which has now been reduced to the status of restricted byway. To the left the current lane becomes The Street and heads towards another crossroads at the centre of the small village of Arlington. To the right next to the entrance to Endlewick Farm is a bridleway, now part of the Wealdway, which heads south to Milton Gate and continues onwards as a lane to Milton Street.
