Officially opened in 1932, Golden Acre was established as a large amusement park, complete with a model railway, boating, a swimming pool and a bandstand. The park lay derelict during World War II, but was acquired and reopened by Leeds City Council in 1945. The Park now includes gardens, open spaces and many fine trees and includes some National Plant Collections.
