This postbox, which is in use, is next to the Museum of Science & Industry in Liverpool Road. It is painted a pale shade of blue, instead of the usual red. It dates from the reign of King George V (1910-1936). In the 1930's, for a few years, special airmail boxes in blue were placed at important sites, but as air services expanded rapidly, special boxes were no longer required. This one was painted blue in 1983, to commemorate the association of the Post Office (now a separate entity from Royal Mail) with British aviation. There is another blue postbox outside Windsor Castle, in Windsor, Berkshire, but that is in a very deep shade of blue. The Liverpool Road postbox's location can be seen in this view:- Image Postbox number:- M3 12. Post code:- M3 4NQ. Last collection:- 7 pm Monday to Friday; 12 noon Saturday.
