The desired route from A to B is not necessarily a straight line. There is no reason for this unofficial path from Hearsall Lane to Beechwood Avenue to curve but it does. It seems that people, like rivers, prefer to meander. The route does not usually show, but a recent long spell of dry weather has resulted in less grass regrowth - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/423279 for a comparative view at the same time of year in 2007.
