Behind the bus Saltgate becomes Northgate, while the traffic island that can just be seen to the right of the bus is at the Saltgate end of Old Market, which is where Beccles Bus Station is situated. The bus in this image is a preserved Bristol VRT Series 1, with coachwork by Eastern Coach Works, which was situated in nearby Lowestoft. It is preserved in the livery of Eastern Counties, which was the National Bus Company operator in this area. It is likely that this bus would have visited Beccles while operating for Eastern Counties, although when new, in 1972, the bus operated for fellow NBC company Ribble, in the north-west of England. On this occasion the bus was operating a shuttle service from Beccles to the East Anglia Transport Museum at Carlton Colville.
