The road through this archway, (which of course was not in place then) was originally part of Red Lane: then at some point, probably in the inter-war period, Red Lane was given a new alignment leading from a new roundabout at the junction of Langroyd Road and Regent Avenue. The old Red Lane was then used as an extended driveway to Langroyd Hall.
