View westward, towards Plymouth and Penzance; ex-GWR West of England main line. By 1964, the Diesel-hydraulics were in sole possession of the lines at least west of Exeter. This is Swindon-built (6/60) B-B type No. D822 'Hercules' on the 10.45 Penzance to Sheffield, the 'Cornishman' having been not long diverted from its earlier GWR route to Wolverhampton. (Ivybridge station - west of this location, was closed in 1965 but rebuilt near this spot in 1994).
