Adeiladwyd 'Pont Rwnws' neu 'Pont Llandeilo yr Ynys' yn 1786 er mwyn i ffermwyr lleol gael gwell mynediad i'r cwarrau calch yn Llanddarog. Yn 1931, yn ystod y llif mwyaf mewn cof difrodwyd y bont yn ddifrifol iawn a bu raid ei hadnewyddu ar gost o £6,000. Anodd iawn yw credu hyn ond pan roedd y llif ar ei anterth gallai pobl leol gyffwrdd a'r afon o ganllawiau'r bont! Ar un adeg bu tolldy ar un pen o'r bont ac ar 7 Orffennaf 1843 fe'i dinistrwyd gan Ferched Beca a chafodd dau ddyn, cwnstabl ac un a amheuwyd o fod yn glapgi, eu chwipio. Yn ystod yr Ail Ryfel Byd ymosodwyd ar yr athronydd byd enwog, Ludwig Wittgenstein, gan aelodau o'r Cartreflu lleol wrth iddo groesi'r bont ar gyfrif ei acen Almaeneg. Yn 1927 daliwyd eog 50 pwys nid nepell o'r bont ac yn 1986 daeth cyn Arlywdd yr Amerig, Jimmy Carter, yma i bysgota. 'Pont Rwnws Bridge' or 'Llandeilo Yr Ynys Bridge' was built in 1786 enabling local farmers to access the limestone quarries in Llanddarog. In 1931, during the biggest flood in living memory, the bridge was severely damaged and had to be repaired at a cost of £6,000. It is difficult to believe but at the height of the flood, local people could actually touch the raging waters from the top of the parapet. On 7 July 1843, Llandeilo Rwnws Tollgate, located at one end of the bridge was attacked and destroyed by 100 Rebecca Rioters. One special constable, employed to guard the bridge, and another man suspected of being an informer, were horsewhipped. Apparently, during World War II, the world famous Austrian philosopher, Ludwig Wittgenstein, was assaulted while crossing the bridge by members of the local Home Guard on account of his German sounding accent. In 1927 a 50lb salmon was caught near the bridge and in 1986 Jimmy Carter, the former American President, fished here.
