Part of the new Anlaby Road entrance and square to the park, inspired by the original entrance which was built in the 1880s and since demolished. The new entrance also features five two metre-high panels, laser-cut with images of the original entrance, made up of dots backlit with LEDs which react to movement – as allegedly does the sculpture shown here, though I have yet to see this feature in action. The panels are also built from the same 'weathering' steel, as are the lighting columns along the paths leading up to the nearby KC Stadium. These have elicited a mixed reaction from locals, some of whom see the 'unfinished' appearance of the steel as less than attractive.
