"Naw Carreg" means "nine stones". The name comes from a time when there were nine visible standing stones but now there are only 3 and they are not standing anymore. According to the Royal Commission ( http://www.coflein.gov.uk/en/site/303969/details/Y+NAW+CARREG/ ) there were once 14 stones in the circle. The circle also gets a small mention in the inaugural 1961 edition of The Carmarthenshire Historian ( http://carmarthenshirehistorian.org/cgi-bin/twiki/view/Historian/HistoryOfTheMynyddMawr ) which states that the circle is 60 yards in diameter but the position of the stones at the moment is much closer to the centre mound.
