The heritage school was set up in 1903 to cater for a wide variety of children with illnesses or special needs with some emphasises on learning and recuperation through crafts. The school was funded by voluntary contributions until 1948 when it became part of the NHS. The building in the foreground to the left began life as Chailey's workhouse in the mid 18th century and continued in use until closure in 1898 with the school taking over a few years later in the early part of the 20th century. Beyond is St Martins chapel erected in 1913.
