Tyttenhanger: Hixberry Lane

Hixberry Lane is an example of a Byway Open to All Traffic (a BOAT) where access is permitted for pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles. A BOAT is shown on the Ordnance Survey's 1:50,000 scale maps with a red dashed line with ticks opposite one another, while somewhat confusingly the same symbol is used on the 1:25,000 scale maps but in green. (A restricted byway is indicated with alternate ticks.) The byway has evidently been resurfaced here recently as it crosses the valley of a minor tributary of the River Colne.
