Founded on this site as the Church of Our Ladye Saint Marye at Fynceslea by Bishop Erkenwald around AD675, the church was rebuilt around AD1100 and again in the 15th century. The clock was clearly added somewhat later and is poorly positioned - being invisible from almost all directions!
