In the 1940s Miss Anne Merrell, a dressmaker, lived here, and had done at least since 1901 according to the census. She was the daughter of Daniel Merrell who farmed "The Moretons" between Westmancote and Bredon up to at least 1881. In the 1940s the cottage did not have the conservatory at the front, and was very dark with shrubs in the garden. Miss Merrell used to provide local children with empty cotton reels to turn into toy tanks with the addition of a rubber band, a matchstick, and a piece of candle as lubrication.
