Houses on the south side of the street, viewed from Gladstone Street. The streets in this area, close to Swindon railway station, were built in the nineteenth century to accommodate employees at the GWR's (Great Western Railway) large Swindon Railway Works. The street is named after Sir Daniel Gooch (1816-1889). He was the first GWR Superintendent of Locomotive Engines (1837-1864) and its chairman from 1865 to 1889.
