The coat of arms for the Manchester and Liverpool District Banking Company, for whom this building on Derby Street (Image) was originally erected in 1882. The Manchester and Liverpool District Banking Company traded from 1829 until it merged with the National Westminster Bank in 1970, who now occupy the premises. The motto, Decus Prudentiae Merces roughly translates as "The glory of the reward of prudence". See also Image for a slightly wider view.
