An iconic 1930s modernist building, designed by Berthold Lubetkin; now that it is surrounded by trees and parking, it is not easy to get a good photograph of the building. A drawing of the health centre occurs on a Second World War-era political poster, "Now Win the Peace", arguing the need for extensive post-war change of the type that was eventually to lead to the foundation of the National Health Service.
