The following text is included, "In 1889, Edward Archdale (1850-1916), a great grandson of Col Mervyn Archdale added a wing to the side of the house which included linking curved walkways to the courtyard buildings. He also wired the house for electricity and inserted an armorial three panel stained glass window at the turn of the staircase. The two flanking windows can be seen at the entrance to the Castle Archdale World War II Museum (located on the first floor beside the Exhibition & Visitor's Centre. The stairs opened up to a pair of matching flights on the first landing. Part of this staircase (with monkey's tail) has been incorporated into the adjacent building at the top of the courtyard."
