Y Stryd Fawr (High Street), Deiniolen

Time was, in the hey-day of the slate industry, that Deiniolen's High Street had some 40 shops. The last shop, the Post Office, closed a couple of years ago. All that remains are two public houses and a cafe. In the late 1990s, the street was given a make-over with European grants, with the houses been renovated both inside and outside.Since then, one or two have become derelict. The boarded up shop, half a century ago, was a successful drapery shop and the tall building next door to it a busy grocer's shop.
