What is now called the Medieval Hall is the former Great Hall of the Deanery, built in about 1220 and therefore contemporary with the construction of the cathedral. It is now a small museum, lecture theatre and exhibition space. On the day I was there there was a display of Persian Carpets, on sale from £1,000 to £5,000.
