The ex-SER Caterham branch crosses the bottom of Whyteleafe Hill here. Trains run every half-hour in each direction, so the barriers have to be closed to road traffic four times each hour - and that is, during off-peak times. Along the railway, Caterham is to the left, and Purley to the right.
