The southern fringe of the town was partly fields and partly clay pits, but is now covered with modern warehouses and factories. The A629 Elland bypass is in the foreground and Huddersfield road in the middle. At the top left a large area of quarries has been regraded, and there is an old brickworks chimney on the skyline.
