Prior to construction of the initial section of the M42 motorway in 1976 (today's junctions 4-8), the A45 had a lengthy section between Stonebridge and Bickenhill without a junction. Addition of the M42 junction and expanded accesses for Birmingham airport has led to a continuous series of slip roads and lane gains/ lane drops over the same section. Here the slip road from the A452 joins, to immediately be identified as the slip road exit to the M42.
