Challenger Lodge

This Georgian house is the core of St Columba's Hospice, housing the charity's offices. It was built for Sir George MacLeod around 1825 and has been ascribed to William Playfair and to William Burn. Its original name was Wardie Lodge, but it was renamed after HMS Challenger by a subsequent owner, naturalist and oceanographer Sir John Murray.
