Now named after the Gillett & Johnston bellfoundry, which used to stand directly behind the pub, it was previously known as the Mailcoach, and the Coach & Horses. When the mail was carried by mailcoach, this was a changing point for the horses. The stabling for the horses still exists in the small beer garden to the left of the photograph.
