Polychrome stone banding in Blisworth High Street

This distinctive and attractive two-tone building technique is known as polychrome stone banding. It is used in the majority of 18th century houses in the village and results from differing characteristics in the locally available rocks. The light sandstone is easy to work but soft and not very durable. The dark brown ironstone is the opposite but hard to work.
