Shopping centre opened 2005. Design typical of late 1990s and seemingly used everywhere! Built on a brownfield site next to the Wyrley and Essington Canal. The creation of the Black Country Development Corporation to stimulate re-development of former industrial sites with government and European funding led to the creation of a number of retail centres notably Merry Hill. The Development Corporations operated outside the local authority planning framework. This site was at the extreme edge of the BCDC area and was a former open cast colliery site.
