The Chancel - There was a church here, on Eastgate, that was built in the 11th Century, but it was in a ruinous state by 1643, following the Civil War, however, it survived until 1776. Five years passed before another church was built, but with a rising congregation it proved too small for purpose. The present church replaced it in 1870 and in 1914 a south aisle was added.
