The house seen at right has the address No 1, Gas Hill, and is one of a few that have survived whereas the adjoining cottages a little further down the road from here were demolished, making way for new housing. A significant industrial event occurred when the Gas Works > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2309728 were established opposite Bishop Bridge in 1830, creating the need for the construction of small cottages, contrasting with the large houses that already stood on the wooded slopes of the area now known as Gas Hill. With a gradient of 10.7% average, Gas Hill is Norwich's steepest hill and a popular route for walkers and joggers.
