There are plenty of old pollarded trees in Langley Park, and the interesting thing is that most are not oaks. In this shot, the pollard near the right margin is a sweet chestnut (I noticed the bark as I passed), but the tree nearest the camera is more puzzling. I'm pretty sure it's not an oak, and I suspect it may be a field maple. Pollards of that species are a bit unusual, so I shall come back when the leaves are out. (I couldn't examine it more closely on this occasion - I took the photo while leaning over a fence).
