The 1840s railway station is now a grade II listed building. It closed under Beeching in 1964 but reopened in the mid 1990s with the reopening of the Robin Hood line from Nottingham to Worksop. Removing the status of the largest population without a rail link. The line survived due to coal traffic although Kirby tunnel was infilled and had to be excavated. Now there is a good half hourly service from Nottingham, one going to Mansfield Woodhouse and the other continuing onto Worksop.
