Two of a series of four stained glass windows in Binton church depicting the ill-fated Captain Scott expedition to the South Pole in 1912. Here the third and fourth windows depict Captain Oates leaving the shelter of the tent, believing he was a burden on the party, and the final window depicts the search party placing a memorial cairn to Captain Scott, Dr Edward Wilson, and Henry Bowers, the remaining three who perished in the tent. The connection with Binton is that Captain Scott was married to Kathleen Bruce, sister of the Reverend Lloyd Harvey Bruce, Binton's rector 1906–24. Captain Robert Scott's widow, Kathleen was a successful sculptor, her work has included her husband Captain Scott Image], Dr Edward Wilson Image], Cap Edward Smith Image] of the Titanic, and Charles Rolls Image All four meeting untimely deaths, I'm not sure you would want to be sculpted by her.
