This is the main trunk road between Aberdeen and Inverness. A joint report by the then Grampian and Highland Roads Authorities recommended that it should be dual carriageway from Aberdeen to Inverurie and from Inverness to Fochabers. Not only is it still a single carriageway 35 years on, it still actually goes through several towns on its way. This straight is one of the decreasing number of overtaking opportunities on the rare occasions when there isn't heavy traffic in both directions.
