This was once a substantial road, lined by beech trees. Old mapping shows it going to long vanished farms: Knowehead (shown as a ruin in 1870s mapping) and Queenshill. Beyond Queenshill, 1870s maps show it as an "Old Car Track" suggesting that it may have been a pre railway colliery track or waggon way.
