The Town House was built in 1797 by architects James Reid and James Adam. Curiously, the steeple beside it was built first, in 1794! The Town House replaced the old tolbooth, which was then demolished and replaced. The building is still in its original use, now housing offices of Aberdeenshire Council. Unfortunately it is very difficult to photograph it well in its context, owing to the crassly insensitive siting of a large and singularly ugly bus shelter on the opposite side of the street.
