The chestnut is a Suffolk, the more powerful of the two and fairly rare. In the 1960's they neared extinction. It is not feathered over the hooves, to avoid mud, because it was a plough horse. The Shire was a good workhorse and was used extensively on the railroads. At the Earls Barton Vintage Rally and Country Fayre, 2006.
