Tropical World in Leeds is a complex of large greenhouses at the north western edge of Roundhay Park. It is owned and operated by Leeds City Council. It contains aquariums and a number of vivariums for insects, reptiles and small mammals – including a group of meerkats. In the large greenhouses themselves there are fine botanical displays, fishponds, terrapins and a number of free flying birds – soon to be augmented in both numbers and species, so I have been told. In my opinion, the experience it offers very much repays the modest entrance fee.
