I don't know who he was, but he would certainly have a tale or two to tell about how he came to be here. This laconic summary of his life shows that his family once settled amid the baroque splendours of a small town in Saxony, that he was born further west in the glorious days of the Kaiserreich and that he died in a foreign land, aware that his people were being persecuted in Germany, but thankfully spared knowing the full horror of Kristallnacht (1938) and what followed.
