It is quite clear from the map that the path bisects the angle of two field boundaries. Here the path is quite clear on the ground; an example, I think, of good farming practice. It is in the interests of the farmer for walkers to cross a field with crops in "Indian file", ie walking in single file, so as to do the least damage to the crop. I think that here the farmer has sprayed a section about a foot wide, making it quite clear where we should walk. Full marks ! Near Scarcliffe Grange Farm, between Whaley and Bolsover.
