Brompton Road station, between Hyde Park Corner and South Kensington stations, opened in December 1906. Its main entrance was on Brompton Road, not here in Cottage Place. In 1909 the Piccadilly line decided to let some trains pass through some of the lesser-used stations without stopping; these included Brompton Road. One of the four lifts was removed in 1911, and a second in the late 1920s; later, the booking office was closed. The station was closed for public use in July 1934. Throughout WW II the station was used as the control room for the 1st Anti-Aircraft Division, and was later transferred to the Territorial Army.
