A sign on this building Image On reorganisation of local government in the early 1970’s the water and sewerage undertakings of urban and rural district councils and the various regional water boards were transferred to a new central government Department of the Environment as the Water Service. The tern “Water Executive” was used for a short term before reverting to “Water Service”. Many people (including bogus callers) used the term “Water Board”. Now Northern Ireland Water Limited.
