The church of the Holy Innocents, Foulsham - C19 font

This large church > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2263077 is situated on an elevation at the northern end of the village of Foulsham and its tower is almost 30 metres high. The building dates mainly from the 15th century and has survived the 1770 town fire, although it did not espcape undamaged. A south aisle was added in 1511 but the oldest piers at the west end of the north arcade date from the 13th century and the chancel is C14 > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2263093. The church furnishings were installed in the 19th century and the baptismal font > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2263134 dates from this time. It is said to be an exact copy of the original font and was provided in 1887 for Queen Victoria's Jubilee. The tall font cover is three storeys high. The east window > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2263099 is by Charles A Gibbs, London, and dates from 1855. On the chancel north wall there is an elaborate monument to Sir Thomas Hunt > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2263104 who died in 1616. He was married three times, always to a widow. The wife who survived him is wearing a different headdress, she is the last one in the row of three women kneeling behind Sir Thomas. Fragments of medieval and C16 Flemish glass > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2263123 were reset into some of the chancel windows, a small panel depicting St Christopher > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2263125 can be seen in one of the north aisle windows.
