The entrance to Colts Bay is off Barrack Lane, near Coastguards Parade. Colts Bay is an upmarket housing development, like much of this part of Aldric, which was developed from 1928 onwards. The entrance to Colts Bay is prominently marked "Strictly Private". When the area of the Aldwick Bay Estate was developed, it was known in its early years as the "Sussex Riviera". In its heyday it was popular with members of the Royal family, as well as film stars such as Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and Jack Hawkins. It did have, and probably still has, a private beach area. The area retains its ambiance of exclusivity and the feeling that "ordinary" tourists are not encouraged, and indeed there is little for them to do here anyway.
