The A272 as it heads west out of the hamlet of North Chailey. Much of the housing sprang out around the crossroads on what was then known as North Common around the turn of the 20th century. The cottages on the right are a case in point; the furthest was built in the late 19th century, the nearest during the interwar period whilst the two in the middle were constructed between 1899-1910.
