Middle Level Outfall Sluice, Wiggenhall St Germans

This was the original sluice and bridge over the Middle Level opened 26th November 1877. I believe it was made redundant by the shrinking fen soil and the need to pump water into the River Great Ouse resulting in the construction of the large nearby pumping station in the early 1930s, see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1026560. This in turn has been replaced by the largest pumping station in the UK opened in 2010 http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2285575
