The map describes this area as a "recreation ground" and the satellite image http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm?lat=51.43753052881687&lon=0.026522004910220793&gz=17&oz=10>=1 shows what seems to be the vestiges of a cricket square in the middle. The Quaggy River runs in the trees on the far side of the grounds.
