St John's Lake to the right and a small creek and salt marsh, flooding with the incoming tide, to the left. This large open area at the edge of the Tamar estuary is important for resident and migrating birds. At low tide the area is mainly mudflats and salt marsh. www.plymouth.gov.uk/stjohnslake.pdf is an image of the information board at this point.
